Mike is the founder and president of Raven Strategic Group. Though Raven was started as a part time opportunity to work with other organizations, it quickly became evident that this was the path God had in store for him and his family in a full time capacity.

He has spent more than 25 years in the emergency services working in a variety of roles always striving to learn more and share that knowledge with others. On top of the training and certifications he's achieved during his career Mike has also earned 2 Associate degrees in Fire Science, a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Executive Leadership. Mike also has extensive knowledge and experience that stems from time spent in a global corporate security role, that has taken him around the world on protective details, developing crisis management programs and coordinating fire protection. Mike is a proven leader in both the public service and corporate world, where he has assembled and led high functioning teams that also drove individual performance and success.

The culmination of all of these roles and experiences brings a diverse set of skills that when paired with a passion for team building is putting the Raven team on the forefront of a variety of objectives both domestically and internationally. Although Raven is a young company, the level of experience and expertise is unmatched.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Faith. Family. Adventure.

This has become our family motto and are my life priorities.

Where do you find inspiration?

Being surrounded by the right people. My wife has been a huge support in all of my crazy ideas for over 20 years and she and the kids are the main source of inspiration.

I’ve also learned to build the high performing teams that both challenge and motivate my visions. Watching the success of the team brings a great deal of inspiration to me both professionally and personally.

What 3 items would you bring with you on a deserted island?

1. Woodsman’s Pal. This tool was my grandfathers and it has served me well in camping, hunting and all things outdoors. It is one of the most durable & functional “knives” I’ve ever owned, and the sentimental value aid in remaining resilient.

2. Ferro Rod. The need to start a fire is significant for so many reasons. I’ve practiced and used this technique before and feel confident in being able to get a fire going.

3. Kleen Canteen water bottle. Hydration would be key and although there are some other amenities that would be nice, water is paramount. Although I normally use a Yeti Rambler (w/Raven Logo) I’d opt for a single wall to boil water for purification.

What is your favorite travel hack?

Micro planning. This is a process of building small little functions into my trips. From updating my "favorites" list on my phone, to putting my flights into a text string with friends or family, to looking ahead during the down times it all adds up to making the trip less stressful and me being more prepared. These micro planning steps start before the trip even begins and carry though each step of the journey, but their culmination makes them successful.

How do you decompress and have fun?

Boating, skiing and being outside are the top things that I do to decompress. I also enjoy watching movies and love watching our kids play sports.
